Book Corner
Fox Chapel Publishing has several dozen books in the works at any given moment—books for coloring, crafts, home improvement, travel, and more. In the woodworking department, we have about 20 projects “cooking” right now. Some of them are at the printer, while others are ideas we’ve accepted and are working with the authors to bring to fruition. We thought we’d share a couple that we hope you will be excited about.
Woodworker’s Pattern Book by Wayne and Jacob Fowler
This book grew out of a conversation at our Open House in 2014. Wayne Fowler showed us binders full of his son Jacob’s detailed fretwork patterns for gorgeous realistic animals. We jumped at the opportunity to compile dozens of them into a book. (Look for some in upcoming issues of SSW, too!) We have chosen 78 patterns based on the Fowlers’ original photography and added a gallery of about 20 of Wayne’s cut pieces and his expert tips for successfully cutting the projects. If you love to cut fretwork, this is the book for you!
This book is in the design process. It is available for preorder from Amazon and will be in stores in November.
Big Book of Gizmos & Gadgets
Love to make things that move and stuff to play with? Enjoy the tinkering as much as the cutting? Then you’ll want to put this book on your must-buy list. We have compiled our favorite projects from our two Gizmos & Gadgets special issues into one omnibus edition of fun projects that do more than hang on the wall. We have a rubber band gun, gumball machine, music box, beanbag game, and several automata. There are 19 projects in all, with step instructions and full-sized patterns on a pullout, just like in the magazine. This book will keep you happily puttering around the workshop all year long!
