Dremel, Lowe's announce winner in pinewood derby car design contest

Josh Mailloux, 7, of Mt. Prospect, IL, Hunter Watts, 8, of Brandon, MS, Josh McCracken, 9, of New Castle, PA, and Bryce Smith, 10, of Irwin, PA, took the top honors in the second annual Derby Car All-Star Design Contest. The contest, hosted by Dremel and Lowe’s, culminated May 21 with the announcement at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, NC.

Lowe’s NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson and Team 48 judged the cars based on creativity of design, attention to detail and picture-perfect finish. Pinewood_Derby_Designs_Patterns_1

All the youths who entered the contest received a Derby Design Patch.

The winners each won a trip to the Lowe’s Motor Speedway where Jimmie Johnson awarded them with a trophy.

Entries for the 2006 contest will be accepted January through March 2006. Dremel demonstrations will be held in Lowe’s stores across the country. Participants will be given information on shaping, detailing, painting and weighing the car. Wheel and axel preparation will also be discussed.
