July 4th is a day for firing up the grill, enjoying the sunshine, and cooling off in your pool or ice bucket of choice. But before you get to that, check out these exclusive FREE patterns we prepared just in time for the holiday—because holidays should always include time spent in the workshop. Choose your favorite and let the sawdust fly!

Cutting and Finishing

Print the pattern and attach it to the wood using your preferred method; we prefer to cover our blanks with blue painter’s tape and then attach the pattern to the tape with spray adhesive, as this allows us to remove the patterns easily after cutting. You can cut the designs from a single piece of 1/4” (6mm) to 1/2” (1.3cm)-thick hardwood or stack-cut several pieces of thin plywood, using wire brads or clear packaging tape to hold the edges together. Drill the blade-entry holes and cut the designs, starting with the inner frets and then moving outward to the perimeters. Remove the patterns, wipe off excess sawdust with a clean cotton cloth, and gently hand-sand until smooth. Finish as desired.
